On March 21, 2016 the Ukrainian band “Shpyliasti Kobzari” presented their own version of the anthem of the Netherlands playing it on banduras, the Ukrainian traditional instruments, and singing it in the Dutch. The performance was initiated by the Centre of Public Initiatives “Ideas for Change” and bandura development project Bandura Style in the support of the civil society initiative #TAKISJA. This initiative had the aim to collect as many as possible video-addresses to the Dutch citizens in support of Ukraine during the referendum on Ukraine – EU Association Agreement on April 6, 2016.
The bandura orchestration was created by Yaroslav Dzhus, the initiator of the Bandura Style project and the leader of “Shpyliasti Kobzari” band. The Ukrainian translation of the one of the oldest anthems in the world was done by the poetess Oksana Borovets.
In their address to the Dutch people the young musicians stressed on the importance of the support of Ukraine during the referendum: “We really want to live in the European country without corruption, political and oligarchic shadow deals, without violation of human rights. The EU Association agreement is the framework that will help us to build a new country. And we believe in it. Please, come on the sixth of April and support Ukraine”
Supporters: A number of the Ukrainian brands and companies supported the creation of the video, i. e. brand of the youth clothes Truman, Spas, Barricade, Dzhiva, as well as Lavrastudio, Art Store Podval, Soncesvit Studio and Ukrainian Cinema Village.
